In order to identify and support students “students needing services”, Hayden High School developed the Support Services Department in 1999.  Students needing services are students with identified learning disabilities, students experiencing difficulty in academics, students with ADD or ADHD, or students who have been referred to this department by either parents or teachers.

·       IEP  - Students who have been identified with a learning disability by their school districts will have annual individualized education plans (IEP). The school district’s child study team writes the IEP with the assistance of the Hayden Support Team - which consists of the Support Service Coordinator,  Hayden teachers, an administrator, a counselor, the student’s parents, and the student.  The Hayden Support Team will than put an Accommodation Plan in place.

·       Accommodation Plan - Any student experiencing difficulty learning or demonstrating a need for certain accommodations inside or outside the classroom will have the option of an accommodation plan.  The Hayden Support Team will devise an Accommodation Plan that will attempt to help the student meet with academic success.  It is the goal of this plan to progress toward the development of (student’s) independence, responsibility, and self-direction.  The Support Service Coordinator will help coordinate the efforts of the student, teacher, and parents.  She will also aid in the communications between all involved in this process.

·       Study-Skills Class - The study-skills class is devised to help students develop the skills necessary to be successful in the classroom.  Some of the areas of study covered in the class are organizational skills, time management, listening, note-taking, test-taking, and research.  In addition to learning study skills, the student has the opportunity to receive support in most academic areas.  The study-skills class is also a resource room for students to work on assignments and apply the skills they are learning.  It is a credit course counting as an elective.

·       Peer-Tutoring – Peer-tutoring was instituted in the spring of 2002.  Any student who is experiencing difficulty in any subject has the opportunity to receive one-on-one help from a student tutor during seminar period.  The student obtains a pass from the Support Service Coordinator before seminar. Then he/she goes to the library during seminar and receives help from a student tutor.  Students on academic probation may be assigned a peer tutor for an extended length of time.  The peer tutor program will be extended to the Study Skills class and the Study Hall times during the school year 2002-2003.

·       Study Hall - The Support Service Coordinator conducts Study Hall.  Any students who feel they need help in any subject can come to Study Hall.  The following times are available for students to attend:
