A HISTORY OF HAYDEN HIGH SCHOOL IN THE 1990's

Construction on tennis courts began in 1995 and the first 4 courts were used in 1996. Construction on the second group of 4 courts was completed in the summer of 1998. Also, in 1994, a soccer field was completed. In 1997, softball and baseball fields were also built and saw use. In 1998, a second soccer field was finished.

Thanks to a very generous donation, Hayden was able to install a new computer lab in 1996 that was expanded the following year to include a computer in every classroom.

In 1993, Hayden changed its administrative structure to include a president. The first president was Urban Langer, 1993-1996, with Rose Fry as the principal.

In the summer of 1996, Benno Schluterman took over as president while Rose Fry remained principal.

In the summer of 1998, Michael Alex became the new president. Adam Holden took over as principal, and Rick Strecker, graduate of Hayden and previously Athletic Director, filled the new position of Vice President of Institutional Advancement.

In the fall of 1999, Hayden switched to a block schedule format. The drive in front of the school was changed, removing the grass and trees in front of the building and replacing them with an expanded, asphalt parking lot. Gage Blvd. was expanded to five lanes to improve traffic flow during arrival and departure times at Hayden. Construction began on an expansion of the main building.
