In 1960, because of the increased interest in the programs Hayden was offering,
enrollment increased to 754 students. Due to the enrollment
increase, the faculty and staff saw that they were going to have
to build another high school which was called Hayden High West. In
1961, enrollment would go up to 853.

In 1962, a new building was erected at 401 Gage to serve junior and senior students. Freshmen and sophomores remained in the building on 8th Street.
In 1963, things were really starting to get organized in both
Hayden East and West. The freshmen and sophomores were at
Hayden East and the juniors and seniors were at Hayden West.
Some teachers had to travel back and forth between the two
buildings, but they did it because they enjoyed Hayden and the
students.
