General and Specific Purposes of a Student Council

 

General:

Developing character and other positive personal qualities among young people.

Teaching democratic procedures and principles.

Fostering development of democracy as a way of life.

Providing for training and experience in the skills and techniques of good citizenship.

Helping each student reach maximum educational growth.

Promoting the general welfare of the school.

 

Specific:

Coordination of student activities.

Keeping school buildings and grounds clean and neat.

Working with the faculty on school problems and projects.

Sponsoring student fund campaigns.

Maintaining good conduct in the halls and lunchroom.

Development of school spirit, pride and morale.

Teaching intelligent respect for law and order.

Providing direct channels of communication between the student body and the administration.
